Cookin' up a storm...

2005-11-18, Rarotonga, Cook Islands

We got a stopover in Tahiti for a few hours, they gave us flowers to wear in our hair as we stepped off the plane and we could have stayed there longer!

The Cook Island of Raratonga is where we stayed for a week - it's only a 32km trip round the whole island. Everybody knows each other and they're all so friendly and welcoming. It's been a bad year for them, weather-wise, as they've already had 5 cyclones but everything seems to be sorted now.

We were tired after the flight from L.A and so we fell asleep on the beach as soon as we checked into the hostel......

We spent the whole week recovering from major sunburn! We stayed in bed for 2 days and our room mates brought us ice lollies. It was really sore to walk and we were moving like Steptoe round this tropical island.

We managed to get swimming in the warm lagoon and had a good night out at an 'Island night' with traditional food and dancing. A few mosquito bites also added to the pain!

We were relaxing in the hostel on our 2nd last night, when our room mate said that some girl had got her flights confused and was flying out tonight instead of tomorrow night - we had been chatting to this girl earlier and we knew we were on the same flight as her....! We just had a few hours to pack, and then try and get someone out to the office to open up the safe to get our plane tickets - sheer terror!

We met some good friends here and got lots of travel tips. We made enquiries into doing our PADI open water and decided to wait 'til Thailand, where it's much cheaper!
