Nothing!!
In the morning we checked out of Wellington and drove on up to Lake Taupo. This stop was recommended to us by Susan’s friend Sarah, and we were happy to have a nice break along the way instead of driving all the way up Rotorua. The drive took about 5 hours and was really beautiful despite the almost 4 hours of rain. The views were not quite as scenic as some of our drives in the south island, but this made for easy driving, and we didn’t have too many stretches on the road where we were stuck going under 40 km/hr up a hill. We were still pretty worn out after the medical scare from last night, so we decided to take it easy in the beautiful Taupo Top 10 Park. They actually called this one a Top 10 Resort and the park received a 5 star rating, the best we’d seen yet on our trip. Most of the parks have 4 star, with a couple getting a 4 + rating, but this one definitely earned the 5 star. Our powered site was very well kept with some flowers and landscaping around the plug-in, and we really saw the difference with the kitchens and bathrooms. We had picked up some chicken on our way into town and made some amazing chicken tacos at the camp. After that, Nathan finally got a good start on the 4th Harry Potter, and Susan made some more progress in her British book The Sea. So basically, yes, we did nothing today.
