Walking on Isla del Sol

2005-11-05, Isla del Sol, Bolivia

After a very rushed start this morning and trying to find money but failing miserably (who would have thought that it was Sunday today, and that none of the cash advance places would be open?) to do so, we convinced the guy at our hotel that we would pay him as soon as we came back, both for our accommodation and for our boat tickets to Isla del Sol. That done, we rushed to be on time for the 8:15 boat, with only $10 (useless on the island, even if you desperately need the toilet and offer to pay $1 (worth Bs8) instead of Bs0.50 for the privilege of using the disgusting, smelly bathrooms) and about Bs30 between the two of us. As usual, the boat didn´t leave on time, but left just before 9. The boat trip was freezing cold, but we managed to make it most of the way out on the top of the boat, until we decided that it was just too cold, and really not worth it to stay outside. So we headed off into the relative warmth inside the boat. Much better.

The hike on the island was really cool, with beautiful views of the lake, but it took much longer than expected and we only made it just in time for the departure of the boat (strangely on time, for a change) that afternoon. We had been planning on spending the night there, but with our money issues, we decided that it just wasn´t going to happen, so we headed back to Copacabana again.
