The Villa on the Mediterranean

It's funny how quickly time goes by, and you suddenly find it's been two months since the last journal entry! Spain is absolutely beautiful. I'm studying here at a training school for volunteers to Africa. I live in an old spanish villa with 12 other people, and we are having a great time. The school day runs from 8:30 till 5:00, and evenings and weekends are usually free.

I can see the Mediterranean out most windows here, and when I'm feeling energetic I walk the 45 minutes to the beach. It's surprisingly cold though!! I was under the impression that the Mediterranean was warm, and Spain never had winter. Wrong!! If anyone has a spare hot water bottle they want to get rid of, send it this way!

Weekends I've done a few cultural things. I've sampled tapas, danced flamenco in a street parade, and wandered through Alhambra Palace. I've peered over Moorish fortress walls, explored the little windy back streets of old Spanish villages, and passed by Pablo Picasso's house and birthplace. I've even picked olives from the trees around here and tried to make olive oil (unsuccessfully!!).

I think the best thing about Spain though is the people I've met here. I've made some great friends here at the Villa, and many more that have passed through. We have quite alot of people passing through who are volunteers in Morocco. It's great to talk to people who live where I'd like to end up!

I will be here three more weeks, then head to Morocco for two months with Rosie, an English girl I've met here. Should be an exciting adventure as I check out all the places I could move to!

Love,
Gabrielle
