View from the Hanuman Temple up on a hill. The main temple in Hampi bazaar - Virupaksha. This temple housed the big ganesh temple. Achutaraya Temple from above. Huge boulders with the Virpaksha Temple in the background. Hampi Bazaar from top to bottom! Very big Ganesh. Some on the intricate carvings.
Ganesh carving. We just stumbled upon this temple on a walk (Achutaraya). I forget who this guy is. ;) An ancient bazaar with some cool rock formations. Lotus Mahal. Elephant Stables. Intricately carved columns. Huge stone chariot that apparently used to work.
More columns and boulders. Our hut bthroom even had a western toilet! I learned to pull of on this bad boy! The Aquaduct! and more lovely landscape Then we went for a ride about outside of town - lots of precriously balanced rocks The temple tank in the courtyard - it was full of plant life - no bathing in there for a while! A lady stopped for lunch
A courtyard The Temple pillars Another Temple! This had some rather risque carvings on it! Me! A Nandi statue The landscape that surrounds the ruins is beautiful... One of the the olde temples - some of these ruins date back as far as 15th Century More ruins...
A lady outside this temple tried to fleece out of money - said you have to pay to go in - you don't! It was known as the realm of the Monkey Gods... It was full of Temples devoted to many different gods We saw lots of old ruins - this used to be a MASSIVE kingdom Today we hired a bike to do a sightseeing tour of Hampi! All the white people! Hampi Bazaar from the other side Fields of rice (i think) and boulders!
The other side of the river... A real 'Givson' guitar - complete with rusty strings! They wanted £65! VirupakshaTemple at the top end of Hampi Bazaar - the main high street Hampi town centre shops - all geared up for tourists selling the same items, beads, harem pants etc Ash chilling with a cold drink These are 'beedies' they are Indian cigarettes - tobacco wrapped in leaves - like mini cigars A lady milling about her house, she'd not long finished dong her washing... and is now a Haven for travllers - it's teaming with white people with dreadlocks!
full of ancient ruins which people have built their homes aound... The streets of Hampi...Hampi is a world heritage site... which disappear with the sunas we drive through sunset, twilight and into the night Palm trees verywhere... More scenery... I love to see someone trying to get away with this load back home. Hahaha! Brilliant isn't it! I'm trying to take you on the journey with me! A street scene - remember i'm sat on the bus taking photo's so some of them will be rubbish...
The way they load up their trucks and their cow and carts is also something to behold And it's beautifully green - surpriing as the water supplies aren't! All the crops are always so tidy and even Also the views are wonderful and you get to see the villages in between. and occasionally a little thrilling as your not quite sure if it will tip over or not! Today we're on the bus to Hampi...I love the bus journeys the drivers are ruthless, it's hilarious The Temple up loads of stairs and really really far away More Temples
