15/02/2010 DAY 30 Visa in Thailand ran out today so took a minibus down to Penang in Malaysia. Slightly delayed as a really annoying couple from Devon with even more annoying voices had lost their reciept so the tour lady asked them to get out of the bus as they had no proof of purchase. After a large tantrum they eventually agreed to buy new tickets...


Penang

We left Thailand yesterday and arrived at the Malaysian border, yeh a new country. It only took 8hrs to get here in a minibus. We checked into our hotel and then went for dinner in a food market (this really wasn't good, so we payed up and went and found Pizza Hut). Today we have been on an island trip with the rest of the group and saw a massive laying...


First stop in Malaysia

We crossed the border into Malaysia with no problems. Malaysia seems like a really cool country. The state religion is Islam but there are tons of Buddhist temples and churches all over. We visited a mosque in Penang which was a great experience. We were lucky to catch the evening prayer session (we did not take part) Later we listened to a a Malay guy ...


Penang

We spent 3 days on Penang in a quirky wee hostel called 100 Cintra Street, it was a cross between a museum and a prison! Clean though but certainly the strangest place we've stayed in. Here we did a walking tour of the city where we visited Fort Cornwallis and got stuck there for half an hour in the pouring rain! Also went to see Khoo Kongsi Templ...
