Udaipur Travel Stories
Finishing off Rajastan with two close calls.
After Mom left, I headed on to Jodhpur back in the non-AC class train car. Jaipur is known as the pink city and Jodhpur is the blue city. Both those nicknames are quite accurate when you compare the photos. I didn't find Jodhpur to be nearly as interesting or impressive architecture-wise but its fort is up on a cliff overlooking the city and the views were pretty spectacular. I only stayed in Jodhpur for one full day but somehow managed to...

The Pearl of Rajasthan
Aren't places always called things like "the Paris of..." or "the Venice of..." or "the Pearl of..."? It's almost always nonsense: Bucharest is no Paris, Suzhou is no Venice and Shanghai is hardly a pearl. Honestly, I'm not even sure why I got onto this tangent because Udaipur isn't called any of these things by the guidebooks, only by us. Udaipur is, simply, the most pleasant city in Rajasthan. The open sewers, streets strewn with litter, food for the cows which looks like vomit and runny cow pats made my stomach turn the second my auto-rickshaw dropped me off. To make matters worse I had to navigate cow corner with one of the horny types going for my rear end. So havi...

Arrival and early observations
I plan to go back and fill this out in more detail but here's an outline of the past three days. Day 1 24 Oct - Hop on a plane to India... Melbourne to Adelaide, nice. Adelaide to Darwin, nice. Darwin to....."I'm sorry, due to a fault with the starter engine we must return to the airport so that our engineers can work on the plane". Bugger. We were put up in a hotel for the night which was ok and then at 12.30pm the next day, well slep...
