Goodbyes for our last day in Lijiang
We left the field station early and said goodbye so some of the staff and the dogs before heading down to Lijiang with our driver. We dropped our bags off in Robbie’s flat and went out for our last meal at N's kitchen. I had the spicy Tuna melt again as it was so good the last time I had it. After our meal we played scrabble for a while on Robbie's ipad. I then went to collect my pyjamas which I had left at a hostel, but when I got there they sai...

penultimate day at the field station
We woke up to torrential rain which lasted for most of the day. So we could only get work done inside as we would get soaked in just a few minutes if we went outside even with waterproofs. But most of the staff arrived at midday, it was nice to see them again as there had been so few people around recently. In the evening we went to have a BBQ with the staff even though we had already eaten our dinner. The BBQ was very good with a selection of m...

Field work around the Field station
The weather was strange today, it was very cloudy, but also very sunny, possibly the sun was so strong that it made it through the thin cloud. I had pancakes for breakfast and Sarah made us spring onion fried bread for our lunch. We headed out to explore the hill opposite the field station. We crossed the now very boggy meadow and headed up a small path, but it was not long until the path became very overgrown and we ended up just walking throu...

Last hike to the field station
We got up early and left the hostel before 9am. We walked straight to the institute of botany to drop off our bags and then walked to the ticket office to buy our train tickets for our train back to Kunming in a weeks time. We can't believe its now our last week in china. On the way back from the ticket office we bought breakfast and met up with our driver. On the way to the field station we bought more supplies at the market. We decided to walk ...

Another day in Lijaing old town
We had a long lie in and left the hostel at 11am. We walked straight to our new accommodation which was the enjoy inn. It was a long walk, but it was in a quieter areas of old town. The inn was nice with free wifi, a riverside location and nice rooms and toilets all for a very good price. After dropping off our bags we walked to N's kitchen again, on the way we bought some eggy bread for our brunch. At N's kitchen we met Robbie and Elsa having br...

Torch festival Lijiang
We got up at 9am and left the hotel to buy train tickets and breakfast. We went to a local supermarket and bought some cheap bread dumplings. We tried to buy our train tickets, but we were too early and so had to wait two days. So we then went back to the hotel to book a hostel, Sarah slept for a few hours whilst I wrote up some more travel blogs and did some research. At 2pm we headed out to good restaurant nearby that we had been to before. S...

Back in Lijiang old town
We woke up at 9am, but there was no power at the field station so we couldn't get any work done as we needed our laptops and the internet. So after having breakfast we walked down the mountain towards Lijiang. We decided to take the route that the horse trekkers normally take, the route took a bit longer, but it was a much more gentle walk down. It took us past some interesting wide dry river beds which probably only flowed in heavy rain and snow...
